Client details & hotspot usage not working properly

If you see that client details and hotspot usage are not updated from 0 even after clients are connected in the Hotspot tab, it seems mHotspot is having trouble accessing the wifi-adapter on your laptop for those apis. It is a known problem with few wifi adapters and windows for 3rd party apps to read.

How to fix google authenticator not scanning barcode

This is a rather weird random bug. Sometimes your google authenticator app won’t scan the barcode (QR) during setting up two-factor authentication (2FA). This happened to me on my Pixel 2 XL. I tried zooming the webpage, taking screenshot of the barcode (QR). The solution was rather simple.

Solution

You need to hold your phone far away to scan the QR code. Really far away, 2-3 ft or 1m away from the QR code. When the code looks way too small on your phone screen, it will work.

Install adblock & luci-app-adblock packages via (cmd or gui).
Configure adblock via Services -> Adblock in GUI.

If adblock is not working i.e ads are still showing (You can verify them on https://detectadblock.com) it means there is no SSL library is installed. Install the package libustream-mbedtls package to make adblock on openwrt work properly.

Note: Ads on youtube can not be blocked because youtube serves content and ads from same domain to fight adblockers. Article will be updated if an effective solution is found.

If you get the error **“hotspot started but internet sharing not enabled”, **please follow this guide to fix it. (you have to do this only once)

Open Network and Sharing Center (Via Control Panel)

Click on the blue label of your active internet connection.

( eg. Local area connection,PPOE connection, 3G-USB Connection, etc.)

Then a status box will appear, click properies.

Go to sharing tab and tick the box,”Allow other users to connect through this computer’s internet connection” and select the wireless network connection 2 or local area connection 3.

To select the English (India) keyboard, follow these steps:

This is a tricky problem. There are various reasons for this, please follow the below wordkarounds in order to resolve the problem.

Make sure your Wi-Fi is turned on (Some laptops have hardware switch as well).
Restart the laptop and try to start the hotspot again.
In Windows 8 and above, turn on the flight mode and then turn it off.
Open Network and Sharing Center -> change Adapter Setting -> right click on your Wifi Adapter -> Properties -> Advanced tab - > Click on Adhoc support… -> set value - Enable.
Finally, if the problem still exists, disable power saving mode for WiFi adapter.

It means .NET 3.5 framework is not enabled on your laptop. Every windows 7 laptop is pre-installed with it.

How to enable:

Open Control Panel
Click on ‘Programs’.

First of all, uninstall mHotspot and re-install it in a new location. Even after it doesn’t work, follow the steps below.

There are two reasons for this.

Firewall service is disabled.
.NET framework is not available.

First, let’s fix the firewall issue.

Type “Services.msc” without quotes and hit enter.
Scroll down to find “Windows Firewall” and right click it.
Start the Windows Firewall service.

For any reason, suddenly, if you are unable to create hotspot or having a problem with internet sharing, follow this guide.

Open Control Panel and navigate to Network & Internet > Network Connections.
Check if there is a connection by name Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter ( in Windows 7) or Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter (in Windows 8).
If there is a Microsoft Virtual WiFi adapter and it is disabled (greyed out), right click on it and choose ‘Enable’.
Otherwise, If there is NO Microsoft Virtual WiFi adapter, right click on your laptop’s WiFi Adapter and choose Disable. Wait for 15-20 seconds.
Now, right click on your laptop’s WiFi Adapter and choose Enable.
Do a refresh. (Right click anywhere on white space and choose ‘Refresh’ in the options.
You should see the Microsoft Virtual WiFi adapter. Now restart the mHotspot.
If you don’t find the Microsoft Virtual WiFi adapter, go to your laptop’s manufacturer’s website and download the latest WiFi driver.
Re-install the downloaded WiFi drivers and restart the laptop.
Now you should be able to create the hotspot.

How to install IDM on Ubuntu

It is called the Wine project for linux. After installing it on Linux, it’ll let you run most of the softwares that are built to run on MS windows on Ubuntu!. So before installing IDM, you have to first set up wine on ubuntu 10.10. Now first…

Don’t be afraid and start your Linux terminal first
Then issue the command below:

sudo apt-get install wine

Now when asked give your password and it’ll automatically install all the necessary packages (Note- this may take a while since the it is a little over a hundred MB’s…..)

After the installation finishes it’ll add its own menus to the Gnome/KDE desktop task bar menus for ease of access. Now whenever you want to install a “.exe” file under Linux just right click on it and you’ll see a newly added menu called “Open With Wine Windows Program Loader”.

Now just go to your IDM downloaded package (setup file), make sure to have a bit older version 5.18 (build8) or lower one, it may or may not be able to run the latest version….

Right click on the setup file and from the menu choose the above stated “Open With Wine Windows Program Loader” from the menu.
Now as in windows just follow the instructions and when in confusion just select all the default settings
Click finish at the end.

Now if everything went well you’ll see that “beautiful” (hurray!!!) looking IDM icon on the Notification area on linux. Now functions such as automatic URL grabbing might not work but you can always copy and paste that URL manually into the IDM GUI or use the “Drop Target” feature.

In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to SDold.

Solution for ipconfig is not recognized as an internal or external command

If the ipconfig is not working, then it is due to path variable missing in your computer.

Please follow these steps to fix it.

1. Open the Start-Menu

Right click on ‘Computer’ and click ‘Properties’
Click ‘Advanced System Settings’ on the left hand side
Click ‘Environmental Variables’ at the bottom of the screen
Check for **‘Path’ **in the list. If it is present,

a) Click ‘Edit’

b) Go to the end of the text box and type the following (without quotes): “;%systemroot%\system32”

**Otherwise, **

Click **‘new’ ** button,

a) In the next window, enter the variable name as “Path” (without quotes).

b) Enter the variable path as, “;%systemroot%\system32” ** **(without quotes).

Click ok and close the windows.

Now open a new command prompt and type ‘ipconfig‘, it should work fine!

If you tried WiFix Auto-mode and the problem is not solved, then use manual mode.

In manual mode you need to enter the IP address, Subnet, Gateway, Dns1, Dns2.

I recently purchased a new laptop with windows 8 OS.

I noticed that, the wifi keeps disconnecting frequently, so I made a little bit research and found the solution.

The solution is in two stages.

Stage 1

Step 1: Press the “Windows” button.

Step 2: Type “Power Options”

Step 3: Select which plan you need to modify ( for example, I use Balanced plan on battery and Performance plan on charging)

Step 4: Click on “Change Plan Settings” .

Step 5: Click on “Change Advanced Power Settings”

Step 6: Scroll down to “Wireless Adapter Settings” and expand it, and then expand “Power Saving Mode”

Step 7: Select “Maximum Performance” for both on battery and plugged in.

Stage 2

Step 1: Go to Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center

Step 2: Left click on the connection of yous network (Blue Color Label).
Step 3: This will open the Wi-Fi status box. Select Properties, select Configure, click on the Power Management Tab.

Step 4: Uncheck the box that says “Allow computer to turn off this device to save power”. Select Ok.

The tweak is completed. Restart your system for the effect to be applied.

So, I found a workaround for this problem.

**Method 1:

** If the files are pictures or pdfs or any document type of files, select the file and press menu key.

Select the “Add to favourites“. In this way, you can view them offline.

**Method 2: (Recommended)

Choose the option “Email link to this file“. **

** Now copy that link and open it in browser.

Click “download” button to save the file locally.

**Note:

** The amount of data costed is same for downloading in browser or by native dropbox app.

**Method 3: (For advanced users)

** Open file manager and browse to dropbox folder on your sdcard.

Now you can see different folders with random names like “q342jfdbafdafaq13qrklmlvkfsb”.

Open that folders and you can find the files that you viewed on dropbox native app.

How to install applications (JAR, COD or JAD) on Blackberry

This tutorial is for those who don’t know or having troubles in installing applications on Blackberry. First you will need to know two basic things which will not be repeated again in this tutorial.

How to copy a file to the memory card of a Blackberry?

First connect the BB* using a data cable to the PC. Then accept ‘Enable mass storage mode’ request. Now the memory card will appear in ‘My Computer’ as a mass storage device in your PC.

How to access the filemanager in my Blackberry?

To access the filemanager, go to ‘Media’, then press BB button (left to the trackball/trackpad). Choose ‘Explore’. Now you will see the file manager. You can access the media/memory card or phone memory from here. You should be disconnected from PC or disable the mass storage mode in order to access the media card.

You can install three types of files: .jar, .jad and .cod . Let’s look at how to install applications in these formats:

.JAR or Java applications:

Blackberry has limited support for .jar files. It may or may not install on your BB. Because Blackberry do not support some of the modules required by some .apps. So these apps won’t install or simply gives errors like ‘out of memory’. But there are java apps specifically written for Blackberry devices. These will install without any hiccup. Here is how to install a jar file:

Copy the jar file to the memory card.
In the BB, open the file manager. Browse to where you saved the jar file and click it. Now click ‘Download’. That’s it. It may take a lot of time unless it is a blackberry specific application.

It may or may not install because most of the java apps are not designed for Blackberries especially games. And there are some JAR file which requires a JAD file to install.

.jad or JAD files:

These are not application file but just descriptions about apps in other formats like .jar or .cod which may be hosted on the Internet. You can edit/open it by simply renaming it to .txt. It usually contains descriptions like vendor name, file size, time of creation, modules used etc.

To install it you should have a Data plan (means if have access to Internet using default web browser in your BB, you can install it). Just copy it the memory card using mass storage mode and browse to the JAD file (read about how to do this in previous JAR method). Click the file and then click ‘Download’. The app will be downloaded and installed within a few minutes.

If you don’t have a Data plan, read this:

Rename the file from .jad to .txt and open it using a text editor. Inside it you can find the address (near MIDlet-Jar-URL tag) where the JAR file resides. It will be simply a web URL most of the times but not always. Copy the URL to a web browser in PC and download the JAR file. Then you have to edit the JAD file by opening it with a text editor. Just replace the URL you copied with the name of the app along with extension and save the file with .jad extension. Then copy both files to a folder in the memory card. Access the filemanager in the BB and browse to that folder. Then click the JAD file and click install. It will install that application.

.cod or COD files:

This is the native app file format of BB. All apps that have advanced features will have this format. An application may consist of one or more COD files. You cannot install a Cod file directly. You will need a description file to install it. These description files will have extensions .jad or .alx. Let’s see how to handle these files:

To install an app with ALX file you have to use the BB Desktop Manager. Connect the BB to PC and open the Desktop Manager. Then use the App Loader in to install the application.

(Select the ALX file inapp loader)

To install an app with JAD description file, copy the whole files to the memory card. Then access the file manager in your BB to open the JAD file and click install/download.

So with JAD you can install an app without using a PC. One more thing to know is that it is possible to manually write a JAD from ALX or vice-verse. But that is for only advanced users as it is a bit difficult. I will consider writing a post about that in future.

This is the actual problem.

I recharged for amount of Rs. 111. They charged and extra 10 as service charge. So Rs. 121 was deducted from my account.
But the transaction was a failure, they said that the amount will be refunded to my FC Balance and not my bank account. (FC Balance is the amount present in our freecharge.in account)
The money was never refunded actually. For instance, you badly need cash and your money is not yet refunded, cash crazy offers loaning options with the lowest price repayment. When I mailed about the same problem, they always kept telling that,

The money has been added to your FC Balance.

Your Current FC Balance balance is Rs 121.00
Request you to kindly retry after doing the following settings and report if the problem continues:

1) Logout and login.
2) Delete browser cache / delete browsing history /cookies.
3) Retry using some other browser / systems

I did the same and report again about the issue but they simply don’t care.
They keep parroting the same. So, I decided to write this review.

GIST:

When the transaction fails, they simply don’t care. Support is horrible.
They don’t add the money back to your bank account (in case of failed transactions). instead they add that money to so called **“FC Balance”. ** This way you **SHOULD and WILL ** use that money with ATM machines only.

Beware of such scam, scum websites. Instead, i tried recharging from another website, so far pretty good, I was a little scared of fraud so I got My Cybersurance online insurance. It is Mobikwik. they also give coupons. You can comment if you have any bad experiences with freecharge or mobikwik.

Update: (11-06-2013)

Today I logged into my account, and found 121rs. balance amazingly. So, I tried to recharge. Well it was done successfully!

BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS):

A BIS contract is a basic BlackBerry specific “data” contract that's purchased with your device from your Telco (ie. O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Three, VodaFone).

The BIS “push email” functionality that arrived in MDaemon 11 allows a BlackBerry device with a BIS contract to receive email periodically from MDaemon.

Only your email is synced - there is no native support for calendar, contact, tasks or notes synchronisation (a third party SyncML client would be required to achieve this) so any changes you make in MDaemon to these data types are not reflected on your BlackBerry device.

Only email on the BlackBerry device that that has arrived since the email account was setup on it will appear.

With a BIS email poll the reconciliation is one-way. Only messages read on your device will be marked as read on your desktop client. Any messages read on your desktop client will still appear as unread on your device. It's therefore time consuming having to manage two out of sync inboxes.

BIS requires inbound IMAP and SMTP access to be available from the Internet to MDaemon meaning you have to open IMAP ports on your firewall to enable this functionality if those ports aren't already open.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES):

Email Synchronisation:

MDaemon 12 onwards includes a built in BlackBerry Enterprise Server and gives true two-way push email to your BlackBerry device using only a BIS “data” contract (a BES “data” plan is NOT required).

Syncing is instant and if you mark an email message as read or move it to another folder on either the device or your email client the change is reflected in both directions. When you initially activate a BlackBerry as a BES device you can specify how much historic email is passed to the device.

Well with my experience, I found there are two types of rebooting.
1. Partial Reboot
2. Full Reboot

PARTIAL REBOOT:
You can power off the device by simply selecting the “Turn Power Off” from the menu.
By this option, the phone simply goes to partial power off mode. i.e you can restart the phone by pressing “end calls” key.
This is similar to Sleep Mode in PC.

FULL REBOOT:
This is the total reboot of the device. You can see the Loading Screen of Blackerry.
it happens in case of installing, updating or rebooting some system apps. Sometimes third party apps require this reboot. They automatically request for a full/hard reboot.
For full reboot, there are two methods.
1. Pull the battery and re-insert it.
2. Press and hold Left Alt Key + Right aA Key + Del

Steps:

Remove funmoods from browser:

In browser options go to tools, **and select **extensions **or **add-ons . Uninstall the funmoods.

Delete the funmoods home page:

In browser options, select **homepage **and clear the url of funmoods and enter your liked homepage.

Remove the funmoods search:

In browsers options, go to **tools, **and select **manage search engines ** and remove the funmoods search.

Remove funmoods from programs:

Go control panel, choose uninstall programs. Uninstall funmoods.

Note: Sometimes, even after uninstalling you can see the funmoods still. Then go to **c:\program files\ ** and delete the funmoods

folder.

**Final step: **

Install malware bytes anti-malware and do a quick scan. This will clear rootkits and registry effected by funmoods.

This is caused by AppInit_DLLS. Usually by installing toolbars like babylon, mystart increbibar etc.,

Edit functions.php

If you have access to the site via FTP, then this method will help you quickly get a site back up and running, if you changed those values incorrectly.

FTP to the site, and get a copy of the active theme’s functions.php file. You’re going to edit it in a simple text editor (like notepad) and upload it back to the site.
Add these two lines to the file, immediately after the initial “<?php” line.

update_option('siteurl','http://example.com/blog');
update_option('home','http://example.com/blog');

Use your own URL instead of example.com, obviously.

Upload the file back to your site, in the same location. FileZilla offers a handy “edit file” function to do all of the above rapidly; if you can use that, do so.

Repeat the above steps, but remove those lines. IMPORTANT: Do NOT leave those lines in there. Remove them immediately after the site is up and running again.

This is one of the problem I faced after shifting my website to a new host.

Ok, let’s see what is the reason.

What really happening is , when the wordpress installation files and database are moved from one host to another,

the old settings/values actually remain in the database.

So we need to update them inorder to make the blog know that it’s on a different host/location.
There are two ways of doing it. Using phpmyadmin and wordpress.
Usually I don’t prefer phpmyadmin because its complicated.

So, let’s do it in the easy way:

(if you don’t have your wordpress installation in the old location read this topic)

1. Login with your details into wordpress (new location).

It will redirect you to the old location (assuming you still have the files in that location).
After login succeeds, go to Settings > General.
Change the wordpress url and site’s url to the current wordpress installlation directory.

This straining eyes is the problem I had faced very recently. Basically CNAME records are used to point alias domains to some other domains.

After changing the host for my website, i updated the nameservers and email servers.Everything fine.But suddenly

i noticed a drastic decrease in my traffic. finally after thinking, testing and trying for couple of hours I’ve found the

solution and I’m posting now.

The problem is, when I changed to

a new host I dint add a CNAME record about www.I’ll explain you in detail.

CNAME record is used to map www.yourdomain.com to yourdomain.com.
Hence it is necessary to update that particular record.

How to add it.

Open your hosting control panel and click ‘DNS Manager’.
Go, to CNAME Records section and click add/quick add (something in that meaning).
Now in the ‘alias/host’ section enter ‘www’ .
In the sever address section enter ‘@‘.
In TTL section(Time to Live), enter 86400 (if text box) or choose 1 hour or 1 day(if dropdown box).
Now save the zone file, it should take around 4 hours usually but max of 48 hours.
Even after 48 hours, the problem is not solved contact your hosting provider.

Installing from USB pen drive is the best alternate for cd/dvd booting because it is sometimes hazzle to carry around the digital discs.

To be frank, what inspired me to write this post is my “Faulty DVD-ROM”.

**Requirements:

You will need atleast 8GB pendrive because,
If you want to install OS from an existing DVD, it’s size will be around 4.7 GB.
In a 4 GB pendrive the space is about 3.93 GB only, so 8GB pendrive is required.
Here is the special case: If the size of OS is less than 3.9 GB, a 4GB Pndrive will suffice.

2. Now, format the pendrive so as to remove any unwanted files which might lead to failure of installation of Operating system.

Next, open the OS-DVD in a computer and Select all the files in it and copy it to the pendrive.
That’s it, our Boot-able pendrive is ready.

**Procedure:

1. Connect the pendrive to the system that is to be formatted.

2.Now restart the system.

Remember, by default system is set recognize “DVD-ROM” as primary device for booting/installing OS.
So, we need change that order priority.
While the system is restarting when the manufacturer menu is displayed press F2 or F8 or F12 to enter device settings(depends on the manufacturer to press which fucntion key.
In the boot priority menu change the USB device to first place.
The system will reboot again, this time “Press any key to continue” dialogue is displayed because the bootable pendrive is detected.
From now it is similar to install an OS from CD/DVD.

Changing of the DNS(Domain Name System) of the current service provider to the fastest DNS servers of the ones like of OpenDNS or Google public DNS will do the required trick. This speeds up the loading time taken for the webpages which r browsed. DNS Servers are used by the internet connection to the correspondence between a domain name and IP address corresponding(each websites has an IP address and can be accessed directly from those IP addresses). It indeed makes the browsing of the internet easier using domain names rather than sequences of numbers. Whenever you call a page, images that are loaded or download files, a DNS server is used.

The procedure to attain it with xp and windows 7 and linux and Vista is different and explained below.

1) Procedure for XP : The parameters of the network connection of the Windows XP computer must be changed to declare a new DNS servers. it can be done like this —

Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet Connections.
Click on Network Connections.
Double click the icon for your network connection.
Click the Properties button.
Double click the item Internet Protocol (TCP / IP).
Select Use the DNS server addresses on this windows.
Then enter the Preferred DNS server field the first DNS server address to use for Google 8.8.8.8 Public or DNS to OpenDNS 208.67.222.222.
Then enter the DNS server field the second DNS server address to use for Google 8.8.4.4 Public or DNS to OpenDNS 208.67.220.220.
Click OK twice and then click Close.
Reboot the system. The new settings are then applied. Launch your Web browser and visit your favorite sites. They should receive more smoothly and quickly.

2) Procedure for Windows 7 : The New DNS servers definition in Windows 7 goes through the Network and Sharing center. It can be configured like this-

Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet.
Click Network and Sharing Center.
In the left pane, click Change settings of the card.
Double click the icon for your network connection (this can be a cable connection or wireless).
Click the Properties button.
Double click on the icon Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

Open the Settings tab IPv4.
Scroll Method and select automatic addresses only (DHCP).
In the DNS Servers field, enter the addresses of DNS servers to use, separated by a space. For example 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 for Google or Public DNS to OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220.
Click the Apply button, type your password and confirm with authentication.
Finally, click Close. Launch your Web browser and visit your favorite sites. They should receive more smoothly and quickly.

NOTE : Both the OpenDNS and Google public DNS are much faster DNS servers and OpenDNS seems to be a bit faster than that of the Google public DNS.The processof changing from the default ISP provider DNSservers to google or open DNS also helps in bypassing the blocked websites of that particular ISP’s many times.

Many people have been facing a weird Wifi problem in Android phones

As you can see in the above pic, when we try to turn on wifi, it simply displays error.

So as to fix this problem,some people suggest to do a Factory reset.But, it is completely unnecessary.Instead you can try the following methods, which where tested by me successfully.
